The Rainbow Project Namibia (not active anymore)
NGO founded in December 1996. “TRP was the community’s response to homophobic statements emanating from high echelons of government after independence. The organization utilized grassroots to counter increased levels of stigma, discrimination and violence – including state agents e.g. police strip searching and ripping of citizen’s earrings. Founding Director, Ian Swartz, and his team at TRP set the scene for national dialogue on sexual orientation as well as gender identity and expression (SOGIE) issues.” (ORN Facebook page)
In July 2005, they organized the first CSD week in Namibia which included a march for human rights with almost 50 participants. Dissolved in the late 2000s.
